holy overhauls and changes, batmans!
The summer of change just keeps on rolling!
FIRST, we'd like to announce a few changes to our application process!
SECOND, we've also got some changes regarding hiatuses!
THIRD, we're thinking of making an even bigger change! Taxon is known for it's medium policy that excludes anime, manga, and video game characters. However, as we continue into our third year of alien shenanigans we feel that this rule, like the Twilight rule of days gone by, needs to be put to rest.
Before we change that, we'd like to know from you first: how do you feel about the idea of us accepting applications from anime/manga/video game characters?
All of that said, dear Taxon, we love you dearly and hope you're doing well in these end days of summer. Don't forget that we have a Game HMD this Friday where we'll cover issues regarding the upcoming metaplot and future glitch polls, as well as any other subject you feel needs to be addressed.
FIRST, we'd like to announce a few changes to our application process!
→ You no longer have to write a full history section! From now on, as long as a comprehensive canon and character history is available online (at a wiki or fan site), you can just provide a link. We hope this makes applications less daunting for our players to write, and help speed up our ability to process them on our end.
→ Our wait rule is being shortened! From now on, you can app any character from any canon that has been available for at least one month, and from points in ongoing canon that have been available for at least one week.
→ To reflect these changes, and coincide with our re-writing of other areas of the game, we've given the application page an overhaul!
SECOND, we've also got some changes regarding hiatuses!
→ PAUSE GLITCHES ARE CHANGING! From now on, rather than a pause glitch resulting in no one being able to notice a character's absence, the process is entirely noticeable. You can even have characters see each other get 'paused,' which involves them suddenly fading out of sight and vanishing in thin air.
→ Additionally, characters that were previously pause glitched will now remember bits and pieces of their time away from the city. Main features of these memories will be dark rooms, extensive interviewing, and other vague allusions to a more confined kind of captivity. If you've ever pause glitched your character before, feel free to start having them remember whenever you want if you'd like to participate.
→ After today, characters that will be on hiatus for longer than a week will be pause glitched. Please be sure to communicate these longer hiatuses with your castmates and close CR before they happen, and we hope this will help everyone out by giving them more to work with even when others are away.
NOTE: This does not apply to slowatuses or any hiatus shorter than a week.

2) As far as the anime/manga/video game character rule goes, I... personally like that Taxon is different from most other games as far as what characters are accepted. I know a couple of people who have wanted to app but have no idea who since they play, say, video game characters, but personally I like having this rule because it makes Taxon not just another jamjar game. There's something (aside from plot and the general premise) to make it different. When I apped, I had to step outside my comfort zone and choose a different character, and while I know some video game characters I'd love to play here, at the same time... I'm more comfortable with the way things are right now.
/two cents of tl;dr

2) Thanks so much, we are really looking into all the input on this since it is an integral part of the game's identity. No final decisions have been made, and all opinions are being taken into consideration.

2) no problem! Hope it helps! I'm really okay either way; that's all just my first thoughts |D;b

MODHAT OFF - re: anime/manga/etc. I am in favor of making the change but am very aware of reservations that may be had about it. While Taxon's basic premise is what drew me in two years ago, it was the medium regluations that sealed the deal, and I'm sure there are a number of us who joined BECAUSE of the rule. I'm very concerned, personally, about losing those folks if we do make the change because I love you all and want to keep you nestled all cozy in my bosom.
However, I feel that with the limited appable pool has come a lack of character diversity, which has become more apparent as time passes. Ruts are bad, and I'll be honest and say that I think our ruts have ruts at this point. An infusion of something else may be good for the game's overall health.
Feel free to discuss, please.

Also; if you want a follow-up, watch SING. The song isn't as good but everyone dies, and that's something, at least.

I'm not really sure that just opening the game up to more mediums is necessarily the solution, nor do I think it's necessarily a bad thing either. I think there's some really good anime/games out there, but, like anything else, there's a lot of crap anime/games out there too and I would just advise the mod cast to be extra-vigilant when looking through apps for these characters, to make sure there is character development meat and thought there.
But I still think that the ruts that are in-game need to be addressed in a way that is not just 'filling them with the sand of new mediums'.
My two cents *shrugs*

I know the ruts ain't getting fixed just by bringing in some new media, bb, and I'm planning on laying down tarmac ♥
re: medium policy

On the medium policy I play a lot of anime/manga/video game muses, but at the same time I kinda liked the medium policy to a point... maybe start slow by allowing video game muses with a shared background/theme/design as what is currently allowed would be a good starting point? By which I mean western games first and then extend into Japanese media later? After seeing how the slight shift works.
Cause there is a distinct difference from the likes of Mass Effect/Halo/Call of Duty compared to Final Fantasy/Dragon Quest/Devil May Cry/Phoenix Wright. Cause it is kinda common for Eastern animated casts to overwhelm games if given the option.

→ I am really liking the idea of this change in the pause glitch! The ramifications will be excellent. And remembering things? Yeah, I am loving this change so much.
I have no opinions on the change of accepted mediums since I only ever app from live action or books. But it would introduce new flavours~ into the game and perhaps we may need that or like that?
Sounds great, guys. :)

Medium change → I personally have slight reservations about this idea, as one of the main reasons I initially apped into Taxon was specifically because I liked the game's medium policy. I do understand the reality that anime/manga/video games are all wildly popular mediums and I'm sure there are plenty of potential appers who'd rather play from them than live action/Western media, and that allowing more mediums in the game would broaden the character base and diversity. I don't think it would necessarily be a bad thing to allow them in Taxon.
Having said that, I do have same concerns about this that other people's comments have already touched upon with more eloquence. I'm also wondering, since from what I understand at least a portion of the anime/manga deal with characters with some pretty hardcore powers that go way beyond anything that the ones our current characters have. That would probably have to be addressed somehow so that there's suddenly not a handful of characters that nobody can touch in any way. I think someone suggested a gradual/partial change rather than everything at once, perhaps that might be a good middle ground to start from?
tl;dr - I can definitely roll with the proposed change and I'm certainly not about to bail from Taxon if it is made, but personally I'm happy and comfortable with the way things are now, too.

Of course we're happy to hear suggestions on how to deal with this issue, but does that help?
