Plots and polls!

And polls for plots and...things! Here's a general game update, sort of like one of the old "state of the Taxon" posts:

Weather:
It's starting to get a little cooler for us in the northern hemisphere (not you, Dien, sorry) and along with that will come a shift in Taxon's climate. In the next few weeks we'll be swapping out lovely San Juan for also lovely Sapporo, Japan, which means there will be a sudden drop in temperature, shorter days, longer nights, and if we stick with it going into winter there'll be TONS of snow. Good times.

Events: Right now we don't have any game wide glitches planned, but we do have some ideas bouncing around.
1. Halloween we need the most input for as it has a lot of potential for shenanigans both fun and terrifying. Or terrifyingly fun or...you know how it is. Yes.

2. Big Ol' Event: For your the aliens' every-few-months drama needs -
Dinosaurs could be a thing. Hows and whats and whys need to be sorted but it is definitely on the table.

Also on the table is the annual AU which doesn't need to be all that annual. Two years ago the city got zapped into Pleasantville 50s suburbia, last year it became the kingdom of Taxonia with folks turning into fairy tale characters. If we want to continue the tradition this year we'll need scenario ideas.

Not quite as big is Freaky Friday/Bodyswap, which is always hilarious and/or creepy and disturbing as hell.

3. None of the Above! These are just ideas, if they don't strike your fancy and have other notions then by all means share! There is also the glitch list which contains plenty of plot ideas (and which needs to be updated badly, whoops) for you to peruse.
The FAQ
A project we've sort of had on the backburner for the past...year is revamping the FAQ. If you could take a little time to look it over, see if anything could be better clarified or if there's anything that should be there that isn't, we would appreciate it.

Anything Else
Feedback is our life blood (seriously, Keri starts to wither away without it, it's scary), so if there's any general non-event stuff you'd like to see or things we can do to keep this place kickin', let us know!

HALLOWEEN:

Proper scary fun faire/carnival/ghostly rides and Haunted House and the whole shebang. Actual Halloween-y stuff going on right alongside any genuinely freaky/scary/lethal stuff.

We'll put our heads together and build something around that!

I kinda want a plague /regrets nothing

Actually I'm down for whatever plot-wise, I'm just feeling sort of disconnected from stuff, and like I'm getting insular and stuff. And I don't like it. So anything mingley would be A+++ in my book.

Sort of related, I've been fretting over only really talking to Dien, Sof, and Will OOCly so...hi, I'm Keri, I play this nutbar and have been in the game since October 2009. I live on the US east coast and am not one of the nocturnal types, but whenever I'm not at work my AIM - mirzath - is on and I'm good for plotting/chattering. Or PM me, this account works best. I'm thinking of apping a second character as well, I just need to canon review the living daylights out of her.

...not exactly what I had in mind when I included that "anything else" bit but okay, there we go.

Yeah, some generic jamjar illness thing, but totally with those guys wandering around creepily.

Down the line, when the angst-monster needs feeding.

Halloween! I'm all for the worst the better. Horror movie nightmares. Actual nightmares. All that kind of fun.

Dinos is cool. Josef will find out they don't taste good ;)

If going with ideas, and not knowing what's been done before... Noir? Steampunk. Trapped on the titanic?

Scary is go, hopefully! We'll see what we come up with.

And yes, they very likely do XD

The only AUs we did before were the 50s one and the fairy tale one, but if we do another one we'll take those into consideration!

I would voted for trapped, in full period-appropriate garb.

I am totally in favor of the annual AU -- my personal favorite thing for annual-AU type events in RPGs is Westerns, wherein everyone gets to be a Western archetype (and develop ridiculous Sergio Leone character abilities) and not remember why and how they're in the mysterious town of, uh, Ghost Town, Southwestern State, or what have you, and have to sort of remember bits and pieces as they go (like accidentally breaking out in an accent/etc. that isn't the one they should be talking in in Old Westville, or what have you). The same thing applies for AUs like noir/mystery, or pirates (though that might overlap the shipglitch, depends whether you care or not), or high school.

I think the main operative in good AU scenarios for plots like that is figuring out AUs that have a lot of flexibility and different stereotypes/archetypes for characters to translate into, and one most people know because it's culturally ubiquitous. Like, fairytales have their billion characters, Westerns have their lawmen and renegade gunslingers and saloon girls and missionaries and what have you, pirates have the various permutations of sailors and captains and Navymen and wenches and whatever. Space opera, same thing. D&D/high fantasy. College, same as high school. Thankfully fandom gives us lots of AUs to plumb.

Altogether I'm in favor of amnesia AU resets like that! They're fun.

As for Halloween, I too like the idea of funfaire/trick or treating/etc. mishmashed with all the horror movie tropes of Bad Things Happening Alongside Halloween, although I think running the logistics of that could be either simple or complicated depending how freaky you want the freaky stuff to be; giving players license to run into ghosts and killers in hockey masks and whatever in their own threads is one way to go that's pretty low-effort, with whatever GM involvement/non-involvement you feel like.

(One way to do dinosaurs, now or at any time in the future, would be to set up a Jurassic Park themepark that comes into town and then have it predictably go wrong. Of course, it kinda overlaps with the Halloween carnival thing?)

... err, anyway, thinking about glitches is fun? :D

Groundhog Day and Everyone Compulsively Blurts Out The Truth Curse are my other favorite glitch-type RPG plots.
