TBF, the fear was mostly "you are threatening her on a darkened street" and will not last unless the Brucolac consistently threatens her in dark places, and then of course he'd have to actually make good on those threats because after a while you realize that it's not gonna happen, which ... is probably a bad idea, all things considered.

Oh he doesn't need a darkened street to threaten her, that's just where they happened to be at the time. Besides, he would rather have her feel that by being hardcore and awesome at her Countessing, she is earning respect and non-threatening-ness from him. Because a) it's good to give the children incentives and a sense of accomplishment, and b) then he doesn't have to do it very often.
