It'd find a way to follow you. I speak from someone else's personal experience.

You know how much I want to argue this with you?

None, is how much.

Listen to me, Cat. Speaking as a person who had to die twice just to figure this out, some people get to pretend the world is a ordinary place, and some people don't. Now you have to decide what you do with it.

And don't ask me what that is, you're looking at the standing definition of 'a work in progress.' Maybe it means when you fuck something up you don't let it knock you down forever. You get back up and you keep swinging.

Yeah, because the ability to go all half-ghost and half-nightmare on people is really going to change the world in the hands of somebody like me. I can't do anything with it, so I might as well not have it. I've asked myself about this before, you know, and it's--if you keep getting up you know exactly how hard that is, John.

Jesus, maybe I just want somebody else to fix this for me, but it's not going to be you--and even if you felt like it sure as hell shouldn't be you, I made this goddamn mess.

You know that if we start playing the 'great power in the hands of someone like me' game I'm going to win, right? Or lose, if you're feeling semantic. And yeah. I know exactly how hard it is.

I'm not going to fix anything. You wanted advice. My advice is that you can't earn forgiveness, there's no - there's no scoreboard. Trust me on this.

But wouldn't it be a lot easier if there was?

We're well past the point where I've figured out all you're going to tell me is what I already know, just - I guess everyone's always looking for the easy answer and ends up disappointed when one doesn't show up.

This is exactly why I took up smoking.
