READ ME PLEASE?

Hey guys, just a few changes we'd like to make you aware of:

1. Tagging! Please tag yourselves when you make posts, and when you comment on other people's! This is important because it helps us check ~activity~!

2. Canon bumping no longer needs mod approval- so don't bother asking us, just go ahead! As long as you make an announcement OOC it's fine.

3. We now have a GLITCH POST, with one of those little forms we all love so much for you to fill out when you want your characters to go on a glitch!

4. We have changed the application slightly, mostly for clarification reasons for newcomers. The 'Arrival Post/Character Voice' section is now called 'Arrival Post (Third Person)' and the 'Third Person Sample' is now called 'Additional Third Person Sample'.

Oh! I'm so happy about #4, as I was just about to talk to you about it. ♥ Thank you for changing it! Though, um... Just thinking aloud, I don't really see why you guys want two third person samples? I just know that when I'm apping for an entirely new character, one I haven't played before, one third person sample daunts me enough - but at least if I have the arrival to set it in, it gets me going. Just wondering why there's no first person requirement anymore. (:

We were finding with the first person samples that people were then going on to make many rich and varied errors on their arrival posts-- so we figured, combine the arrival post with the first person speech by giving it a 5 line speech requirement. That way we can quality control the arrival posts and make sure the voice is down all at the same time!

And we figured also that people have to do their arrival posts sometime anyway, so it's not really extra work-- as they'd also have to do the 3rd person sample in any case.

But I still don't see how, if the arrival post is already in third person (even with a dialogue requirement), then a second third person sample is needed? Both would encapsulate their handle on description and prose, wouldn't they? They'd just be talking about different things, one of which might never come into play during their stay in Taxon.

Again, it's just not clear to me, and of course I'm not trying to nitpick or anything. (: All of this with the greatest respect and politeness.

Not a problem at all, we appreciate the questions!

Having two third person samples helps show us the range that the writer is capable of-- two wildly different samples is better than one, particularly when that one is a fairly standard arrival post, that naturally has to adhere to the conventions and limitations of an arrival post. The other sample can be anything, which gives a chance for the applicant to show creativity and flair, as well as a handle on decription and prose.

Plus, with a two week reserve period (plus the option of extension), asking for two samples really doesn't seem like an outlandish demand.

We're really just trying to maintain a standard of good writing with the challenging application, hope that makes sense.
