STATE OF THE TAXON: SUMMER LOVIN' EDITION

HOT FUN IN THE SUMMER TIME
The climate is sticking to mild San Fracnisco, but you an expect things to be hotter down at the brand new beach. Temperatures will max out at 85F/30C, just enough to get the sand nice and toasty between your toes, with a gentle onshore breeze to keep it comfortable.

“Comfortable” would be a good word to describe the entire city this month: there is an overall sense of vacation holidays and a relaxed, resort-like vibe enveloping the town. The Extras will seem just a bit more cheery and helpful, happy to accommodate the citizens’ every wish. Along with this will come a wave of cheesy souvenir shops selling a wide variety of “I ♥ Taxon” t-shirts, mugs, hats, magnets, shot glasses, bottle openers, and stuffed hamster plushies wearing “I ♥ Taxon” t-shirts. Apparently the aliens are tyring their best to be reassuring and welcoming in the newly re-arranged and spiffed-up city.

ANNOUNCEMENTS
Since we missed out on Spring Cleaning, we’ve moved it over to the summer!

Last month, in addition to redoing the city map, we updated the templates on the wiki for all your location pages! They now match the character infoboxes and are much easier to fill out without the wiki doing strange things to your line breaks. Don’t forget to check your location/item/vehicle pages and fill out the information on them, including permissions.

We also rewrote the Expanded FAQ, so be sure to check it out! Hopefully the information there now is more clear and concise, and if there’s anything that’s still confusing please let us know. Following the additions we made after the Game HMD, we’ve also expanded the information available on the Aliens, and the Glitch List.

Additionally, after the events of the Sanctuary Glitch last month, when you thread a character leaving the Arrival Room in your intro posts you are free to have them end up on any floor of the Sanctuary itself. We'll be editing the application, basic, and expanded FAQs to reflect the new change!

This month we’re looking to continue our efforts to make all the Taxon information clear, concise, and available for you. We’ll be making more posts throughout the month involving cleaning up our rules and possible changes to the activity check system, polls so we can plan our larger glitches months in advance, and other announcements as new ideas are implemented throughout the game, so please keep an eye on the modly posts tag here in the OOC community.



FREEBIES
In keeping with the atmosphere redolent of summer, the giveaways this month will be decidedly relaxing in nature. Anything your characters would want to enjoy the new water features (swimsuits, sunscreen, towels, snorkels, flippers, goggles, etc.) will be free from the stores and hatches. Other beachgoing gear - lounge chairs, massive umbrellas, colorful fruity drinks with little paper umbrellas - will also be free of charge.

In addition, summer get-together items will be free. Everything from hot dogs to the hibachis to grill them on to the “Kiss the Cook” apron to wear while you’re grilling your free hot dogs on your free hibachi, as well as nasty cheap light beer to swill while all of the above is going on will included on the freebie list.



IS IT REAL? OR IS IT HIDDEN REFLECTIONS?
Starting today and lasting all month long, the shiny bits of Taxon will be behaving oddly. Even characters that normally wouldn't register a reflection will end up subjected to their shenanigans.

→ Regular Mirrors: When a character looks into a normal mirror of any size, it will show them their deepest desires. An image of a loved one they wish they were with, them decked out in the finest bling as ruler of all, a better, stronger version of themselves, whatever you can imagine your character would want most (either above all things or just in that moment) can happen in their reflection.

→ Reflective Surfaces: Other surfaces that can act as mirrors (panes of glass, still waters, shiny metals like doorknobs, knives, or hubcaps, etc.), however, will reflect a character's true nature. Positive or negative, their overall nature or their true feelings in that moment. It may show them as an unrepentant monster, a vision of themselves from the past, give away that they're laughing when trying to fake seriousness, or any other interpretation you can imagine.

These effects will be fleeting and occasional, so feel free to use them as much or as little as you like. You can also have the images shown to your characters in mirrors or other surfaces be visible to others, but that's also up to you.

Take off your heels, find somewhere nice to be alone, do not be sad when the sun goes down, and take your characters for a ride because it is meme time! Catch up on CR, build new stuff, and plan your doings for the month.

What's been going on: Hahahaahahahaha...uh. Don began his extended stay in the Sanctuary by dumping a bunch of blood down the sink, which won him SO MANY NEW FRIENDS. He passed a tense week or two there and then was glitched into his ten-year-old self, who is pretty confused and frightened right now.

Things to do this month: Well, after the glitch ends (and I intend to have some fun with the mirrors while it's still going on, especially since one of tiny!Don's deepest desires is to be an adult who can fend for himself) he will probably endeavor to spend most of the month in seclusion. Possibly drunken seclusion. This might entail wandering the newly rearranged city or immersing himself in work--I'll have to see how things shake out. ALSO HE IS GOING TO PRETEND TO HAVE NO MEMORY OF IT AND NO IDEA WHO DICK WHITMAN IS. So. Feel free to ask him questions! And he will feel free to tell you it's none of your business :|

What's been going on: Good lord um. Liberated lobsters, foisted them upon the general population, tried to give Kaylee her vervain necklace though I'm not sure how well that went, danced with Dawn in the wide open spaces floor, discussed diseased singing with Kurt, talked to people? Did things?

Things to do this month: BACKTAGGING ALIENS IS MY GOAL, TO FINISH THREADS IS MY CAUSE.

Also, finally, after two years of chickening out, there will be A Glitch. For about two weeks or however long I can keep it up, River will be AU-no-Academy-Sane-River. I'm gonna play it as her having no memories of Taxon, but certain things like names of people she knows and random snippets will get through (thanks, latent psychic abilities!) to encourage ALL THE NEW CR ALL OF IT /GRABBY HANDS in addition to ALL THE HORRORS with her current CR. And I'll probably go ahead and start it... sooonish, like in the next week or so. IDEAS FOR HOW TO START THIS OFF: VERY WELCOME, because I have few ideas and they're all horrible and bad and mean.

What's been going on: June was a horrible month for Rose. She had her first glitch which caused her to bite three people and almost killed them. She now feels that no one would be able to trust her anymore and has spent most of her time in her room, not venturing outside. Rose knows that she needs to address the issue of what happened and has sent private messages to those that she attacked.

A part of her wants to be upfront and come out as a vampire, but she's afraid that it would let the secret of the other vampires slip. Hence the reason why she's contacted Stefan. Her and Damon had an emotional meeting *wibbles* which only made her think of the moments before she died back home.

She's also spoken to tiny!Don, Drusilla, Puck, Rorschach, Fitz and Kaylee. Rose greeted Piper and has hopefully found a new friend in Godric and Angel. Rose bitched at Mayhem and also had a run in with Katherine in which she smacked her hard on the face. It helped a little XD

So, in short, she's an emotional mess who feels awful and needs people right now.

Things to do this month: Rose needs to build up trust again and find some happiness. She's not in a good way at the moment.

What's been going on: Last month Ror was stuck in hobo!mode, which was mostly just irritating to him since he has Issues. He made some friends (although okay, "friends" is really stretching it), was fed by a former cop, finally found his Monster in the flesh (which...I'm still not sure how it turns out in the end so we'll see how that goes, backtagging ftw), interrogated the hamsters with less-than-wanted success, discussed them with Rose and Paul (seriously. he runs across Paul an awful lot considering his feelings towards cops; I'm amused) and met tiny!Don! And in a stroke of surprise didn't try to scare him. AND Dan now knows what he looks like without his mask. ...And Paul might too because he's Observant. *cue dramatic gasp*

Things to do this month: TINY!GLITCH. Yep, at the end of the month Taxon will be subjected to wee!Walter. Prepare for many odd looks and strange world-views, and much more naivety, openness, and grammar than is his usual. As well as a marked increase in sensitivity to "your momma" jokes. Hopefully some B&E and sugar consumption earlier in the month (I NEED MORE BROMANCE IN MY LIFE), backtagging forever, and...probably other things.

What's been going on: Oh lord he's bee all over the place. He actually had a grand old time being cooped up in the Sanctuary (despite laundry mishaps). He met some new folks (Wikus and Max, finally), caught Willow stealing blood, was adorable at DG, went swimming with Cain, chatted with Anita more (and may possibly be inviting her to move in, I've got to tag that), and...stuff. Maybe most importantly he rigged together a temporary lobster habitat/containment unit for River, which was invention #2 for his item petition /ominous music

Things to do this month: Go to the beach party and witness the "ocean" (he may have gone to the old Sunnydale Beach when it was here but it's been ages and he's forgotten *cop-out*). General trolling. Possibly acquiring additional housemates. THINGS, SUGGEST THEM!

BIG IMPORTANT THING: He's also going to be giving Don his typewriter back. Said typewriter also works as a fax machine (there's a second one he built in the shop and he might make more). This will be the third invention and that means he'll be getting his brain back (sort of).

What's been going on: Wikus is now a Working Joe! And busily pushing more papers. At yet another company with Dubious Goals. I swear he never learns. He found the Shack not long after Sanctuary opened up again, and he's mostly just going around, doing his thing, and trying not to attract too much attention. Per usual. He bonded with Long over the loss of speech thing and mutual LANGUAGES WHOA, so NOW HE HAS A FRIEND hooray! And he's trying to be reassuring with Piper, but it's not going particularly well because he's a dork.

Things to do this month: ALL THE THINGS PERIOD. I would LOVE to get him more integrated in one way, shape, or form since I've been disappointingly lax with Wikus!luff. I would LOVE to get him out of his shell, so to speak, and I would LOVE people to point at his prawniness and go "WTF" so he stops being such a lame, self-conscious dork about it. So. What's been going on: Back from a pause glitch, general confusion in trying to catch up with everything that's been going on, dealing with the departure of Jayne/Amy/Spencer/Kate, making accommodations for Alexis to move in at the Ranch, aaaand drinking. Lots of drinking.

Things to do this month: KAYLEE'S BIRTHDAY IS TOMORROW (July 2nd) so I will probably put up some kind of get-together post for that. She will also be chilling and wondering what to do with Sane!River. I am always up for plotting, so if anyone has ideas, or has something they might want Kaylee to make or fix for their character, let me know.

In addition: GIDGET SAID THAT "RIVER NEEDS HER POSSE OF VAMPIRES FOR ADVENTURES WITH KAYLEE. POSSIBLY A PICNIC." So there's that, too.

What's been going on: Welp, Paul is still recovering from various vampirecapades-- physically his bite is healed, but mentally the experience has left him shaken, as have the other attacks. He is trying to find a rational middle ground between living in paranoia and not doing anything at all; he talked Don down from further blood-dumping, talked to Godric some, Sookie and Angel at the time.

More pleasantly! He's been cooking. And meeting all sorts of people as a result of that. Paul likes to cook, and I can probably coerce him into making more food after this fairly easily. For those characters who like food.

Also trying to teach Cain yoga, teach Alexis sciencey stuff, and possibly stealing lecherous looks at the variously clothed men of Taxon during the Sanctuary glitch.

Things to do this month: Now that they can get out of the Sanctuary, Paul's going to beeline for his fortress of mighty bird crap, make sure it is still there, and get to work on the finishing touches. Then he will move his crap into the Birdhouse and establish it as a 'safehouse' per his original plan.

Specific things going on with the safehouse, which can either be Played or Handwaved or Discussed Here as players/chars need to:



*Generator for power for the Birdhouse: as I understand it, Keri, I think we agreed to sum up that Glitch has created said working generator? If I'm wrong or if other chars like B'Elanna have stuff to stick in there, lemme know. (INVENTOR TYPES WOO)

*Magical shield for the Birdhouse: Paul has loosely discussed this with DG, and somewhat with Willow, but as yet has gotten no consensus on whether this is possible or if what he wants is feasible. Magicky types-- if they are inclined-- can totally get in on this. (MAGICKY TYPES WOO)

*Field hospital in the Birdhouse: Paul has discussed this with Martha, and learned that 'oxygen' may also be a Birdhouse need as far as stocking things go. So he will want to get a rudimentary first aid/field hospital in part of the Birdhouse, and talk to the Inventor Types about oxygen scrubbers/tanks/what have you. (MED/INVENTORS)

*This can be down the road, but essentially, armaments/weaponry to make the Birdhouse a defensible location (FIGHTERS, INVENTORS?)

*Supplying Birdhouse with mundane stockpiles like dry foods, water, etc. This may mean pooling credits to hatch the necessities. Water could also go under an Inventory type thing (water purifiers, etc). (ORGANIZERS, INVENTORS)


If I didn't specifically include your character in my suggested groups, that is because my mind is only mortal! *weeps* I would love to get many characters in on this, and view it as a plotline open to all characters within reason. Paul may not trust you, but that is CR too!

What's been going on: Long actually took reasonably well to the Sanctuary imprisonment-- there was a library, he was happy-- and met Quinn and wee!Dick/Don. Now that it's back into the outside, he intends to get serious about his job at the other library, now that his move is completed. He has greeted some new arrivals. He will also have been contining to work on the translation, trying to flesh out his initial version of it to have it make more sense. It's been a pretty quiet month for him, mostly because I failed this month.

Things to do this month: A post from Long from the Taxon library, sort of a meet-and-greet thing, encouraging Taxonites to take advantage of the massive library. I am really looking forward to the mirror glitch, and will be doing lots of things with Long and reflections, so anyone wanting to pick up on the 'dragon' thing, I am all for it. Even if he finds it all slightly embarrassing and in poor taste.

Long will continue his own personal quest to sample all the Taxon restaurants and compose the Taxon equivalent of a Zagat's guide. Taxat? These may be short reviews as everything tastes off, but he will keep trying, bless his heart. He is also delighted and happy to teach languages or to learn languages, as always.

What's been going on: He spent most of his time trapped in the Sanctuary, defending a vampire's right to eat by pointing out that if the blood supply was removed, the people would become the new blood supply. In short, he was pissing people off, which comes standard with this one. It's something he's good at. At the moment, he's glitched into the human he was in After the Fall very much not happy about it.

Things to do this month: Human shenanigans? Aly, are we still up for doing some IWRY-esque things? ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING.

What's been going on: Formulating a plan to replace the moonstone with a fake after learning Katherine's in possession of it, while also getting himself in even deeper into the Katherine vs Elena triangle he's got himself caught in the middle of. Good job, Stef. Found something of a (maybe temporary, it's hard to tell with these two) balance with his brother, agreed to be part of the Glee Club in attempt to do something resembling teenager normalcy, and River blackmailed him into taking a lobster on as a pet.

Things to do this month: Moonstone things -- Car, were you still going to have Elena talk to Rose about that? -- and things with Caroline, Freya?

What's been going on: Connor is adjusting to Taxon reasonably well, all things considered. He's a little jumpy after feeling caged during the Sanctuary Glitch, and still very, very concerned about the mess he left behind him at home. For the most part, he is broody and solitary, though he has been keeping in touch with Angel and Dawn fairly regularly.

Things to do this month: He's starting to make an active effort to come out of his shell, and maybe be a little bit more verbose. He needs to talk to someone plainly about what he left behind so he can vent and possibly cry and just detox, Dawn would probably be the best candidate for this. I would also love for him to expand his CR with other people he's spoken to briefly, River puzzles him and he's curious about Willow since she used magic in the one instance he approved of it. He'll be more social this month, as it's finally sinking in that he's not going back anytime soon, and this is home. I'm also looking forward to playing with the reflections with him, because HE is pretty sure he's a monster in sheep's clothing, so that should be fun.

What's been going on: Anita is also getting used to the place, and since everything got changed around, she's been getting the lay of the land. She's also been house-hunting, since she's tired of staying in hotels and misses her apartment in St. Louis. Time to find something more permanent.

Things to do this month: There is a LOT I want to do with her concerning the reflections, from revelations about her relationships (which will come as a surprise to her, honestly) to reflections of her nature now that she feels she's becoming one of the monsters, desensitized to violence and fraternizing with the "bad guys" more than she ever thought she would. Also, MOAR CR. It's happening. Like Connor, she will also be a social butterfly this month. I should be around a lot more. >.>

What's been going on: Oh, gee, where do I even begin?

Wyatt thrived with the lock-down glitch, finding it was just the ticket to get him out of his myriad bad habits. He cooked, he swam, he planted stuff, and along the way he made a new friend (or he might, if the thread with wee!Don goes well). Paul tried teaching him yoga, was treated to some frank and earnest soul baring instead (an ongoing thread which I hope to continue because I just had an epiphany re: what's really bothering Cain). And Dien, this can be hand-waved or played out depending on your preference: I imagine Cain's started teaching Paul to swim, what with the giant pool and all. Y/N/cookies?

Things to do this month: Further dealing with Issues, and I'm telling you I'll be having a (sadistic) blast with the mirror glitch. :D Also, Cain will be getting himself a job as soon as I figure something out, and maybe even hang at the beach a bit. ...when he isn't puttering about in the Sanctuary green house.

whoneedsrules / The Vampire Diaries

What's been going on: Got stuck in the Sanctuary during which she finally met Jenna face to face, bonded with Max (and maybe accidentally revealed herself as a vampire to her), harassed Angel, confused Willow, ran into and sort of taunted Rose in person (and got smacked for it), snarked with Damon and continued to try climb Stefan like a tree. Busy girl, this one.

Things to do this month: More horrors, as always. Maybe some mirror things, I'm not sure yet. I have nothing solid planned, so give me all your suggestions, big and small! :3 I always welcome plotting, new CR and stuff with previously existing CR.


bonescientist / Bones

What's been going on: Not horribly much; got stuck in the Sanctuary same as everyone, thought the hysteria with the vampires was an overkill (no pun intended, sob), was her usual, often inappropriately blunt self.

Things to do this month: I have no idea. All the things? I need to canon-review for her like burning asap, lately it's been a bit of a chore to tag around with her, hence why I haven't really done much with her. I have no plans for dropping, but her tags may be a bit sparse. I should get her into things. /vague forever As always, all CR new and old is awesome and if there's anything you have in mind, I'll gladly hear any ideas!
