*quiet door-shutting noise*

I don't think it's a surprise to anyone given the discussion that was ongoing in the last group OOC post about it, but Sofie and I (Dien) are agreed that for us, at least, the game is over right now. We're such a small player base that I'm not sure the term even applies, and we just don't have the enthusiasm or reserves to do what needs to be done to change that.

Thank you all so much for so many fun memories. For all the threads that never got to be, we're sorry; for all the frustrations and failures as mods, we're sorry. But we hope that every one of you goes away with good memories too, because we do, and, speaking for myself, it's been a fun ride.

Maybe someday there'll be a chance to blow off the dust and crack this toybox open again, but it isn't happening right now.

Peace out.

So.

Hey guys. We were due for an SOTT at the start of this month, but..... I guess the question is, is there a point?

I don't think it's any surprise to anyone that things have slowed to a near-total halt. Threads are basically on life support at this point, or they've gone entirely unanswered (Keri, honey, I'm so sorry, I JUST NOW saw your posts from Glitch and Emma, and the fact that I haven't even checked the main comm in this long is pretty telling in and of itself). We're down to... five players? (Sof, Keri, Jess, Kat, and myself.)

Obviously there are things we need: more investment from your mods, more tags from us all, and above all new players. But we've tried to get those happening for, if we're honest, about a year now. It seems like every time we get up the juice for a fresh start, we end up sputtering to a halt a month or so later.

This holiday season has been extra-stressy for me, which has contributed to my personal fail here, but that's not an excuse, because I really can't promise I'll be any more committed or engaged in the new year, given my track record so far.

If someone has a compelling reason we should try and keep Taxon's lights on, please make the case. I love what this game has been in the past, I love so MUCH of the play I've had here over the years, but at this point I have to admit I'm pretty burned out and I know Sofie is too.

I don't want to write Taxon off, but my enthusiasm is at an all-time low and I don't think I'm alone in that.

Talk at me, folks.

Fallen of the radar...

Hey everyone...

Sorry I completely fell off the radar there for a little bit.

The last three weeks have .... well, I'd be hard pressed to find another three weeks in my life filled with more bad than these have been. So, I'm recovering from a lot of different things right now, including my new friend the aggressive ear infection.

I'm hoping to be up and around here again soon. So sorry.

hiatus

Hi, all! It's Relia (Horst, Rosalind/Robert) and Gabe (Sherlock, Johannes, David-8) here. We wanted to check in to let you know what's going on with us lately and to announce that we need to continue our hiatus from Taxon.

In addition to personal stuff with each of us which has made it difficult to post, we both have significant holiday commitments (including out-of-town travel as well as the Yuletide rare fandom exchange) that are likely to eat up all our time and energy in the near term. Furthermore -- and pretty excitingly for us, we think! -- we're working together on a joint writing/art project that we're devoting a good chunk of our time to, and it promises to dominate our lives for a while.

We love you guys, and Taxon, but we hope you can understand the need to go on hiatus for a while to focus on some stuff that's very important to us (and, we hope, to our careers!).

Many hugs,

Relia and Gabe

Apologies and a drop

No one is surprised by this, but I'm actually withdrawing from all online games and that includes this one.

I've loved it while I've been here. I wouldn't have tried online games at all if not for Taxon but my anxiety is too extreme to even pretend I can come back at this stage.

When I'm back from treatment, things might be different, but I'm not going to keep people waiting until then.

Keep having fun and stay beautiful people. I'm still around for chatting on AIM if anyone wants to catch up!

November/December State of the Taxon

It's November. The weather is getting colder, and some of the kinks of the body-updates are getting worked out by your friendly alien overlords... and it's time for State of the Taxon.

Stuff Ahead:

This is a quiet month as far as big events planned by your moderators go. The body-weirdness is still ongoing to be used in whatever capacity/extent you like, but if anybody's itching to do a character-specific plot or glitch, now's a great time as there's nothing big on the docket for a little while.

Winter festivities are around the corner, though, and the aliens do have things planned for that and the new year. More to come on that in December.

Additionally, characters will find that an awful lot of their food this month tastes like turkey and gravy. Even things that aren't supposed to taste like turkey and gravy. There was a mishap with the chemicals being added to your food vats-- they're still getting the hang of trying to provide your physical bodies with physical food.

On that note, the fixings for a Standard Thanksgiving Dinner are available for free in Taxon's stores, this month.

The weather is chilly, with light snowfall by the end of November and start of December.

WALK INTO THE CLUB LIKE--

Guys I changed my mind, scrap this, I'm apping Eli. No I'm lying.

Hi Taxon. I know it looks like Glitch and talks like Glitch and is probably more Glitch-like than the previous incarnation but this is...okay it is Glitch but it's also Ambrose. He'll answer to both! Anyway, he's gotten his brain back and spent four annuals in the O.Z. becoming something of a well-adjusted human. He did remember bits of Taxon through that, though most of his memories of the metaplot are p. much gone. Overall Ambrose is optimistic, curious, a little careless (or carefree if you ask him) and will be thrilled to have more puzzles to solve.

I'll toss an re-arrival post up in a day or so. His new app is here, and his profile is here with the permission portion forthcoming. Hit me with any questions!

Subtle changes...?

Were we going for subtle changes? I could be remembering incorrectly but I thought some of the proposals were pretty intense...? Like Spike being a real boy, as it were....? I'm good either way, of course, but just wanting to make sure I'm recalling correctly.

facepalm

So it really does occur to me that I should have declared a slowatus like 20 days ago, but I keep foolishly thinking that my mother being present won't impact my RP time/motivation and it always does. SO FOR THE RECORD, my mother is here and we're organizing big family shindig, but they go away on the 14th. I'm going to try to catch up on tags and mod stuff between now and then, but I'm just throwing it up so very belatedly because I realized I didn't actually explain, in my last post, what was sucking up all my time beyond a vague 'family stuff'.

Okay, back to typing mod stuff guys *ducks head*

And this is to let people know that there's a summary post up in the candy glitch, just in case you don't have it tracked. Here is a link: taxonomites.dreamwidth.org/632136.html

If I've forgotten anyone or you'd rather your character's part in the ending be different, please let me know.

Again, I'm very sorry for how poorly I ran it. You guys deserved better.

Mod post

Hey, Taxon,

First off, our biiiig modly apologies for the lack of clear mod communication from us on the end of the plot there. We had some mixed communication going on our end, but we hope that we learned from it and that we can improve in the future to make player-run plots go more smoothly. Sofie and I have both been a) really busy and b) wrestling with some personal frustrations, which is by no means an excuse-- life happens, and we have to be able to still give you guys consistent mod direction even when it does, because you guys deserve that (you really do, you're lovely players, all of you)-- and we can only try and do better in the future, and hope that you'll stick with us. While we know it did not end as smoothly and neatly as we would have hoped, we do thank Jess for running it, especially with her demanding work schedule, and we hope that everyone had as much fun with wacky candy shenanigans as we did.

That said, we're going to get back on track for the body-changes plot as was discussed in our last huge plot-shindig-talking. If you need the refresher on that, it's here. We'll put up an in-game post soon describing what happens, but the cliff's notes is that characters will basically all black out, and then wake up in their beds (even if they weren't in bed the last time they recalled). And the subtle differences can start being noticed.

Feel free to discuss, ask questions, list complaints, or... the usual.

-dien and sofie

September's State of the Taxon is here! Autumn has officially arrived!

The times are changing, and so is the weather in your friendly hodge-podge of a neighbourhood. The leaves are turning a lovely golden, red, orange miasma of autumnal colours. Night falls sooner (and darker) than the previous summer time months. The temperature seems to drop a little tiny bit each day. Bring out your scarves and your beanies and your raincoats, Taxonites, for Autumn is finally here.

What is SOTT?, you may ask - whether you're new to the game or has been around the block a few times, as we haven't actually had a proper State of the Taxon for a while. Well, in short, it is a way for us mods (Sofo and Dien) to get in touch with everyone about the exciting stuff we (or you!) have planned for the month or two to come.

It is also, traditionally, a place where we all as players can teal deer about what our characters have been up to Behind the Scenes, or Off-Screen. You know, between the threads you have, or the posts you've posted, or just general stuff that has been handwaved or is more day-to-day - or high points and low points in your character's life that you want to bring up. More on that down below, under CR meme.

Stuff Ahead:

Per the big metaplot post, September is kicking off with Candy Taxon for the first ten days! After that, the characters are being put into their new, biological bodies. Feel free to check out the big metaplot post for more details on that, or to ask questions about it here.

Slowatus..

Hi all. I know I've already been slow but it is about to get worse. (So sorry!) I'm going to be Enforcing at PAX this weekend. I'll be out until Tuesday. If you need me, message me and I'll do my best to comment before then but chances are small.

THERE ARE MONSTERS IN THE SPACES BETWEEN ATOMS.

Hey kids!

Per this post, Taxon is currently having some rather serious and weird problems. In-character, these will happen for a 24-hour period; OOCly, they will end when we put up the post detailing the start of the Candy-Glitch, as outlined in the Huge Plot Post of Doom over here (link for the newer players among us, or anybody who just wants to revisit and refresh themselves on it!).

You are totally free and encouraged to add in other weird things your character is currently witnessing or experiencing. Suggestions include but are by no means limited to:

-Fluctuating levels of oxygen, lighting, and gravity in Taxon.
-Objects appearing distorted.
-Cryptic writing appearing in mid-air, or on your skin, or on a wall (excerpts from the message the Extras are reciting)
-The projected sky, buildings, and scenery of Taxon dissolving into nothingness or static
-Laws of motion and inertia behaving in unpredictable fashions
-Déjà vu
-Anything else you can imagine might happen in a VR whose environmental controls just got hacked

Go wild, and have fun. :) Reactions can be posted as comments to the main post, or as individual threads. Please tag the latter with 'system glitch'. Thanks!

Any questions... you know the drill!

(Oh, and have fun with this being your inauguration to Taxon's weirdness, Jimmy, John, David...)

oops

I settle down to tag tonight and what should I discover but that my laptop adapter seems to be missing. :-\

I'm stuck on battery power for the nonce, so computer time will be minimal until I find or replace the stupid thing (or break down and figure out how to get my PC re-connected to the interwebz). Sorry if I'm slow for a bit!

Good evening. :)

Hi everyone, my name's Jolinar, and I play Jimmy Novak.

It's weird. I really like the characters, but I'm iffy on the show itself. Too many writers, too many questionable decisions, too many passes with the idiot ball? Who knows.

But, I was catching up on what I'd missed, and my creative muse (in all her fickle, fickle glory) latched onto the story of this one poor bastard that had signed on to help Castiel and gotten stuffed in the fridge. He got an episode when Castiel screwed up enough to get dragged off to Heaven, and a mention in the episode with Famine, and.... that was it. No closure, no mention that Jimmy'd been shuffled off to Heaven, nothing.

Now, granted, in the meta sense, I can understand that. Writers only having five seasons worth of episodes to work with, a writer's strike throwing everything up in the air.. But I felt that Jimmy deserved at least a little more than what he got. And thinking about him spiraled out into a very important question:

.... What would six years with Castiel do to a person. How would it have affected him?

My first thought was 'Trauma ahoy!' In canon, it's stated that Jimmy remembers fragments, impressions, nothing specific. And he's spent six years with an angel that's descending into madness, culminating in Castiel's dealings with Crowley and the Leviathans. Finishing with Castiel walking into the water to dissolve.

Which is where I came in. This is an AU of Jimmy, since it's never explained what happened to him (to my satisfaction, anyway.) And picks up with him arriving in Taxon after a week's layover in Atlanta, Georgia. He doesn't know how or why he's back among the living, but he's going to try again what he was trying to do before.

Get away from the angel and get home. Or, more realistically at this point, make a new life for himself somewhere.

So long, farewell, auf wiedersehn...wait that's not right!

Ignore the subject. It's a greeting post!

So. Hi. My name is Steven. And I will be joining you in your darling little community, complete with non-Shatnerian sentences starting with this one. No, that one. The one you just ready. Or just read a few sentences ago, geez, whatevs.

I'm afraid I'll have to make this short for now. Classes started this week, and I am swamped with last-minute requests. I'm an Instructional Designer, so faculty here who teach courses online are screaming for help, and I'm off to be a superhero. Cape and everything!

And yes, I will be playing John Constantine. Run for your lives!

EDIT: Adding here instead of a new post, but a little bit of background about how I'm handling Constantine.

Sit down children, and let Steven tell you a tale. Once upon a time, there was a critically successful comic book series called Hellblazer. Hellblazer took the character of John Constantine, a rather popular side character who first appeared in Swamp Thing, and gave him his own title. John is your classic Allan Moore creation--misanthropic, magical, and stolen from Allan Moore's cold dead hands by DC Comics. The comic was darker than most of DC's fare, and during a particularly dark and nasty run, DC started a new comic imprint called Vertigo. Hellblazer became one of Vertigo's most famous titles, and got even darker without the trappings of DC vanilla. John was a problem character for DC for a while--in DC comic fandom, there exists what is called the "Iron Curtain," which divides DC from Vertigo. Except characters like John Constantine, or the Endless of Sandman fame, appeared in DC first, then switched over. Still, Hellblazer was successful.

The comic lasted years, never going more than a few months without an issue, from 1988 to 2013. However, there were problems in paradise, as there always are. DC wanted to bring John Constantine back into its clutches. Nostalgia set in--during the Brightest Day event, John appeared with the Swamp Thing. Since then, he was a featuring character in Justice League Dark (an all-magic team), and has been given his own title called Constantine.

In true comic book fan way, I am not pleased with this turn of events. That said, it gives my wicked brain new ways to torture the poor man. So, here's the scoop:

While John has always looked younger than his 66 years (demon-blood in his veins), it's worse now. He looks right at 30, perhaps slightly younger. His memories are fuzzy--he primarily remembers the events of his Vertigo title, but he also remembers his time with Justice League Dark. Though married in the Vertigo title, his memories of his wife come and go--like much of his memories from either world.

In-canon, he has no idea why this is, and most of the time can't remember it happening enough to try and resolve out. Meta, this is because comic books are confusing and the Taxon aliens pulled both Hellblazer and Constantine at the same time. So John's dealing with basically being two different characters, but the same person, and yeah. Conflicting memories and selves.

Luckily, the Constantine movie has been well and truly forgotten by the annals of time. ¬.¬ For now, at least.
