MEME HO!

That's a nautical term, ftr, like LAND HO! (which, due to the involvement of land, doesn't really sound nautical - but it totally is) but if you wanted to interpret it as 'this meme is brought to you by Dele, who is also a ho', well, I'm sure I would have difficulty finding anyone around here to strenuously disagree on my behalf. Anyway, I love this shit so, this show: let us get it on the road.

WELCOME TO TAXON'S CR MEME!
  • Comment to this post listing your characters.
  • Other people will then reply to your comment requesting some epic TL;DR about how your characters feel about theirs.
  • Maybe talk about how you feel, OOCly, about the direction of their interaction or what makes this CR really powerful, tragic, or perhaps just straight up wildly lulzy.
  • Since we p. much always have new folks coming in, if your characters are so new they still need spanking, feel free to use this as an opportunity to ~*discuss potential*~.
  • It will be epic.

    PETRANA AND RIVER

Also any potential houses where River can wander in and either steal things or sit down to dinner. Or stuff.

    petrana: river.

    [identity profile] gqbamfofalltime.livejournal.com 2010-02-14 01:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Petra has met River once thus far, which in the grand scheme of things doesn't necessarily mean much - although her day at the beach with Cordelia was similarly memorable for totally different reasons, but this is not about Cordelia, it is about River. The point is that River has certainly left an impression.

The appropriate response to having somebody invade your home and your privacy, when you are Lady Petrana of Gatas, is to scream blue murder for the guards. Although the Extras could probs throw someone out if she needed them to, she's sort of wary of how useful they actually would be in that respect (more on that if requested), which is part of why she opted to handle it more delicately. Other factors: River is clearly nuts and Petra is a terrible bleeding heart in some ways. The picture that had fascinated her also played a part; sentimental value temporarily bestowed on somebody who just admired the sentiment.

River strikes her as actually being very steady and steely- mad, yes, really obviously out of her ridiculous mind, but in a way that Petra feels like she can almost relate to. River seems to have a certainty about her that Petra finds sort of soothing at the same time as wanting to take an interest and maybe take her in hand a little. She thinks she's sweet, and intriguing, and she'll probably be pleased when she puts together that River and Dawn are friends. It will strike her as wholly appropriate.

I enjoy the continuation of Petra's lady-fest - a lot of my female characters previously have ended up surrounded by dick, and while I do not object to dudes on principle, I like my ladies to have ladies. For Petra it's very IC for her to be wary of strange men and to reach out as a caregiving figure to young women; if she were less isolated, she would probably be the kind of noblewoman who cultivates a group of younger ladies to guide and teach and steer. What she's doing in Taxon is not unlike an attempt at that, success levels naturally varying.

Also, she will be giving River away at the wedding, just saying.

    ENFYS AND BB

    ALSO SOLOMON AND BB

    ALSO YOUR FACE AND BB

And of course Snape and Petra, I am lazy and not posting separately for that.

Hi, I like playing with you. :>

why so naked, brucolac, the twins aren't even here yet

    [identity profile] gqbamfofalltime.livejournal.com 2010-02-14 03:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I will do all of these. ONE MOMENT.

    enfys: the brucolac.

    [identity profile] gqbamfofalltime.livejournal.com 2010-02-14 03:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Enfys has a natural wariness of vampires - she is a fucking Slayer, etc, etc - but she also has a healthy understanding of how, at least, her world works. While Buffyverse vampires are, with only about two exceptions, essentially overpowered destructive emotional toddlers, they are also at the bottom of the demonic foodchain and you can tell. She's always been sort of disgruntled about how Slayers are associated with them specifically, since there are much cooler demonic threats they could be fated to kick the shit out of.

The point is, it's not a huge priority for her. She's getting to understand that her knowledge of vampires doesn't necessarily stretch to how they are in every universe - TY, Brucolac - but this hand-in-hand with the fact that Enfys insists on judging anyone nonhuman on a case-by-case basis actually means she's more open to it not being a huge deal. The Brucolac is charming and funny and competent; he makes her laugh and he doesn't throw a little tantrum if she doesn't cower in front of his mighty vampire balls or whatever. She likes him. She'd probably hit it if he weren't a vampire, but as it is - baby girl gotta draw a line somewhere. (Other demons, cool, but a Slayer can get a reputation, if you know what I'm saying and I think you do. Buffy.)

Also she's probably going to want piggybacks, like, all the time.

    solomon: the brucolac.

    [identity profile] gqbamfofalltime.livejournal.com 2010-02-14 03:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Solomon is frankly pretty staunchly anti-vampire; he doesn't like 'em, he doesn't trust 'em, and he sure as hell doesn't want to spend his free time with 'em. That said, the Brucolac got his attention by managing to be fairly unique as they go; what he is, that's monstrous, but Solomon is capable of telling the difference between 'what' and 'who', and tbh as a person, the Brucolac is not a monster. Capable of horrific things? So is Solomon; there's a reason he's feared in supernatural circles and it ain't because he likes hugging trees.

So, anyway. He doesn't trust the Brucolac, but from their conversation and additionally from what Doul said later - the fact Doul had worked against the Brucolac and spoke of him respectfully went a lot further than the same thing would've gone if Doul had worked for him - he's willing to consider him as a potential ally. He is certainly interesting.

    petrana: professor snape.

    [identity profile] gqbamfofalltime.livejournal.com 2010-02-14 03:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Severus Snape put Petra at ease by being an asshole. It's stupid, but it's true; she has spent her life around knights of one kind or another and they are not, as a rule, real cuddly guys. The ferociously intelligent have always been her favourites, and they do tend to run to 'intellectual dickbag'. Men who like to be classy jerks are familiar, and comfortable, and she knows where she stands with them.

Something about her is that she wants to trust people. She's not stupid enough to open her heart and her arms to anyone without reservation - she's learned too many lessons, too hard - but she does very much want for people to be worthy of that. She didn't take Snape up on his offer because she trusted it, but because she was angry and tired and humiliated and sick to death of so many things that she hasn't been able to really bring herself to voice in Taxon, where they aren't 'relevant'. (It is not that she believes she would be shamed here the way she was in Elenia; it's that having all of that be rendered meaningless by its distance from this place and from the understanding of people in this place would be almost worse.)

But she wants to trust him, and so when she woke up the following morning and thought 'oh god, what have I done, I am an idiot, Davidias will be furious if he - when he finds out', she sucked it up and decided to stand by her decision. And, thus far, she's pleased with that. She believes that he is a very good addition to her household and she's very much hoping that that will bear out. He's interesting in and of himself, beyond just what he can teach her, but as they settle into a structured relationship as both lady+employee and teacher+student- that's a very new thing, and she's hesitant to upset their admittedly kind of precarious balance by probing too deeply. While, at the same time, being very aware that Davidias would kill her for not knowing more about this person she has practising magic in their home.

She is pleased with how he's working out, with a few reservations- which are the understandable concerns and not 'problems with Snape himself'. Hilariously, she finds him to be one of the most well-mannered men she's met in Taxon.

    petrana: glitch.

    [identity profile] gqbamfofalltime.livejournal.com 2010-02-14 04:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Glitch is forever endeared to Petra for two reasons: pleasant company for tea, and more importantly, he fixed her locket. The sentimental value of that particular item of jewelry is, uh, complex, but the notion of a shadow of Martel breaking it beyond her ability to repair was ... hurtful and galling in a lot of conflicting ways. Petra will probably never explain to Glitch how much it meant to her that he could help, because she's p. sure it makes her sound like a fucking lunatic, but it's more or less secured him the ability to rely on her for assistance if he ever needs anything she can provide. He may or may not even have to ask. Emotions are weird.

As for Glitch as a person - she's not totally sure how to handle him, finding him by turns more delicate than she's used to and not, perhaps, as delicate as she'd thought. Which isn't reassuring because it only puzzles her. She likes Glitch, finding him charming and easy company, but he's kind of a mystery to her and she hasn't had the time she'd like to devote to puzzling him out. (Puzzling people out, you may have noticed, is kind of her thing.)

The addition of Ambrose Langwe (shit did I spell that right) to the mix only added to her bemusement and interest; she can't quite reconcile the two of them and she very much wants to. She was extraordinarily disappointed that she only had such a brief conversation with Ambrose, partly because he was intriguing in and of himself and partly because mostly there aren't a lot of people in Taxon who operate in a way she finds familiar, and it's comforting.

This will be brief, BUT: Sol thus far likes Glitch in basically the same way that Sol likes kittens and sunny afternoons. They're not hugely important or necessary to his life, but they are nice to have around and at least as far as small fuzzy animals go, you have to treat them gently. He intends to introduce Glitch and Leila at the ball.

WE HAVE TO FINISH THAT THREAD CRY
    anyway.

Enfys likes Trixie; by all appearances, she's got her shit together, she doesn't fuck around, and she is an awesome time judging from what Enfys does and does not remember about why she woke up in a wheelbarrow. Enfys likes for people to be/appear straightforward, because she is sort of disconcerted by someone she can't place somehow and let's be honest, okay, Enfys is pretty shitty at interpersonal everything and most people are difficult for her to place.

Trixie is someone she can cheerfully get along with, where 'get along' may mean hooning around Taxon in Trixie's car hurling water balloons at Extras with Penelope or possibly drunkenly ranting about shit, which also still needs to happen because...that's great, basically. (That said, the idea of Enfys glaring at a bottle of beer like I know what you do may actually...happen, lol didn't drink. IF EVER THERE WERE A TIME TO START, I GUESS.)

I think Trixie is somebody that Enfys will legit trust in due time (a relative rarity), although if called upon to explain why she...would not be able to, what do you want from her, she is peopledumb. I also think Taxon should like...tremble a little, maybe.

    ...so, this is complicated.

Their first meeting wasn't exactly full of promise, which despite their awesome tendency to fight at the drop of a hat actually had less to do with Leila than it did to do with the situation. Sol wasn't really thrilled about the idea of ~*liaising*~ and he was not totally above taking some of that irritation out on her, tbqh, especially since the idea had come from the Etherite side of things. He figured they'd deal with each other enough to accomplish their respective goals, they probably wouldn't ever really get on, and he'd work on that whole 'knocking Tonya up' thing.

...right, that went spectacularly not according to plan.

Sol is wildly, stupidly, obsessively in love with Leila and completely entangled with her; this would be bad enough on its own, being as how he is so, so married, but there is also the fact that they have now been off-and-on in a relationship (in a relationship, not just fucking, Sol would stress this point) for about four years. He knows and understands that he is an enormous bastard, that the supernatural secrecy was already dooming his marriage and that he is only adding insult to injury by cheating on Tonya as well (he sure doesn't have a good excuse for that, unlike how he can sort of maybe say he's protecting Tonya by not telling her how he really met Callista). He gets that this cannot actually go on exactly as is indefinitely.

The thing is that Sol refuses to be the one who makes that decision. The way he sees it is this: the weight of secrets between him and Tonya will buckle their marriage inevitably. There's a reason they're not trying as hard for a baby any more. He knows that she's going to leave him sooner or later. He loves her - so much, he loves how she holds her chin and how she hates early mornings and how she scolds him all the time and how she doesn't get his love for gardening but picked out a house where he could do it - but he is not going to be able to keep her and he knows that.

Leila, he thinks, he will probably also lose. Inevitably. She is so determined to hold herself just far enough back that he can't quite reach her and he's legitimately concerned that if he did leave Tonya, she would immediately (and, for once, permanently) break it off because he'd be no longer safely married and there would be nothing holding them apart. He's pretty sure she feels she needs that and I'm ngl, he kind of hates himself for factoring it into his decision not to leave Tonya. He hates that if she asked him to, he would, because that aside- Tonya and Solomon are married on borrowed time and it's a lot because at the end of the day they are literally living in two different worlds and she cannot be a part of his the way that Leila can. If he thought that Leila was ready/willing to have a relationship ~*for real*~, openly, with the acknowledgement that they were in one and had to deal with it on those terms, then he would do it. Immediately. And he'd feel like a prick, because he kind of is, but there you go!

    solomon: leila 2: electric boogaloo

    [identity profile] gqbamfofalltime.livejournal.com 2010-02-15 01:42 pm (UTC)(link)
He can intellectualize the idea/"fact" that he will lose Leila, but he wouldn't accept in the same way because Sol can see a future there that he can't see any more with his wife. Which he doesn't love about himself, but he doesn't hate it enough to not be in this situation. So if she moved to Singapore, if she moved to France - LA was not going to be far enough and they wouldn't either, but they'd probably be easier to fuck up and get busted.

In some ways Taxon is coming to almost feel like a test-drive for a reality where they don't sneak around, and Sol intends - to a point - to let Leila steer this. So when she introduces him as her date, he'll roll with it without batting an eyelid; he wants to see where her comfort level is when his wife is kindasorta not in the picture, annnnd because it's Sol, he wants to see how far he can push his luck.

He would very much like to be able to make it work with one of the women he loves so much, and since barring a miracle he can't see it with Tonya, on certain levels he is crossing his fingers that Taxon will be able to help him and Leila figure out some of their shit. And the he feels they should bust out, because damn.

Right now, also, OVERARCHING INSANE RELATIONSHIP ASIDE, he's...still really concerned about her in the wake of her sister's death. He doesn't believe she is even remotely okay, there, and he is sort of frysquinting at the major life upheaval that followed like ARE YOU DISPLACING, LIEBCHEN :/ etc. And he is going to slowly keep pushing at it. Which will probably result in him getting kicked out of her apartment repeatedly, I assume. Enjoy their screaming bloody fights, Taxon!

So, Enfys likes Judith. Judith is honest and blunt and sometimes a little awkward, which Enfys can relate to and appreciate in a person; she swears a lot and has consented to drink tea made by Enfys and they can work together. These are all good things, as far as Enfys is concerned. She thinks Judith needs people, which...everybody needs people, no man is an island, but obv what with Judith being a werewolf it's not exactly the same, and to Enfys (who has systematically isolated herself in most of the 'real' ways) it's kind of fascinating and puzzling and she's sort of volunteered herself to be Judith's person just so maybe she can understand why.

She will probably never understand why, let's be real here, but she sometimes just does things and then insanity happens, it's how she rolls.

Also, Judith is cute as fuck, so...makeouts, gonna happen. IN BRUCE WAYNE'S LIBRARY, YEAH. Which deserves elaboration on account of how they are ~*exploring their sexuality*~ or whatever; Enfys is actually aware of the fact she is bisexual, so she is not so much exploring as she is acknowledging. She has been closeted for years, mostly as a result of embracing the hell out of Catholicism in a fairly unhealthy and inadvisable way. (Protip: Catholicism is not inherently bad for you. Taking it up out of spite in order to hurt somebody else, who has left the faith, is probably not gonna go anywhere good.) Taxon is weird in that it separates Enfys out from the few connections she has left, and while she is...avoiding having to cope with that (it is hard :[), there is also the fact that she has used her father as an excuse to hurt herself (in...order to hurt him SHE'S SO HEALTHY) for a long time, and in Taxon that's...well, he's not around to look at her and make a sad old man face, you know? So it's interesting.
