longaevus: (and around [ if you can see ])
[personal profile] longaevus
Hey guys! Just letting you know that I'll be on a brief hiatus from today until Sunday (at the latest). Last minute decisions ftw! I'm heading back up to uni tomorrow and have a bunch of stuff to sort out, the biggest of that being unpacking all of my crap.

I'll be around on plurk if anyone wants me for anything. And at the end of the week (Friday-Sunday) my hiatus will be more slowatussy as I start tagging into posts to catch up!

Howdy, folks. *hat tip* Welcome to Mayberry, so to speak.

So, this comment marks the debut of the Sheriff to Taxon. The aliens have been debating for a while whether Taxon needs a little Law and Order, and Kobra and Party's firebombs have made up their minds for them-- the aliens have this thing about the city being bombed... ;)

So here's an OOC heads up as to how the Sheriff will operate and interact with the citizens of Taxon:

First off, attacks against him are not going to be successful, so while in general one should never godmod things like "I swing and I hit the character!" that will especially hold true with the Sheriff. By all means, if it's IC for your character to attack the Sheriff, go for it-- just leave it up to the Sheriff's answering tag as to whether or not it hits/what happens as a result.

Secondly, the aliens have granted the Sheriff some limited control over the programming within Taxon. If he is manhandling your character somewhere.... he is stronger than your character. If he is trying to grab you by the collar before you can run out of the room... he is faster than your character. Etc. Etc. (So, in other words, you guys can't god-mod, but I can. ;) ) Basically, the Sheriff will escort you to 'jail'* regardless of how willing you are to go, or what your powers are-- characters may find their weapons malfunctioning, their powers not working, that sort of thing.

Thirdly, because of the nature of Fiction in Taxon, characters won't recognize him as 'Andy Griffith' even if they would normally be familiar with the show. (They may think he is vaguely reminiscent of an old TV show called Sandy Griffin, but that's up to players.....)

As far as the Jail itself goes, more will be going up on that once it becomes a thing, but rest assured that we're not simply locking characters away and forcing players into that-- jail is going to be very easy to escape, at least in its initial incarnation. The aliens are "beta-testing", and may alter the scenario as needed, depending on what characters do as a result.

As to what the Sheriff IS-- it's hard to tell right now. He may be an empowered Extra; he may be one of the Aliens themselves. You'll have to wait and see.

Feedback is welcome, and the Wiki and such will be updated as soon as I can to take the Sheriff into account. Oh, and this is all Dien, obviously-- complaints with the Sheriff can be brought to me, or to one of the other mods if you don't want to tell me. :)
