THE TIME OF THE UNDEAD IS UPON US
Hey guys! Zombie time is almost upon us, so we’re putting this post up with more detailed information about the zombies, having you sign up if you want to turn your character into one of the undead, and extra plotting to your heart’s content!
First thing’s first: HOW TO BECOME A ZOMBIE
Step one is, as we said on the SOTT, infection through being bitten by another zombie. The symptoms of infection, other than the obvious presence of a bite-mark, are the general symptoms usually associated with the cold or flu: fever, chills, coughing and sneezing, with an added intense appetite. Step two is death. A character that has been infected will die from the infection in 24 hours, unless something else speeds that process up. The something else can be anything from blood loss to being hit by a clown car. As long as their brain remains intact, they’ll move on to step three: reanimating as a zombie two hours after death.
Now for the fun of basic zombie behavior!
All zombies, no matter the type, will have the following in common:
Most of the zombies will be Shamblers, Extras that have been infected and risen in large numbers all throughout the city. These will be slow moving, without any higher brain function other than what is required to move and process external stimuli like sound and smell. Occasionally, they’ll congregate in groups, following each others movements. Such groups can be as small as three or four zombies wandering down the street, or as large as twenty congregating outside a safehouse that’s been compromised. If something catches the attention of all the zombies in a given area, like an explosion, that number could triple as they all move toward it in search of living prey.
The other type of zombie that will populate Taxon is the Mover. Your characters can be Movers, or you can have them be Shamblers. It’s entirely up to you. Movers, compared to Shamblers, are much faster and more agile. They can even run, though because of the advanced decomposition of their muscles they won’t be as fast as an uninfected human. These zombies will also be able to do things like hide, recognize other signs of life (like the presence of smoke from a camp fire), and will travel alone in search of prey. However, this much higher brain function does not mean they will have memories from life, and they will not choose to spare a victim or show any brain function outside of what has been described above.
If you’re going to have your character become a zombie, please comment to the sticky mod comment at the top of this post. You have the choice between making your character a Shambler or Mover, and whether or not you’ll go through with having a death penalty. For those who don’t know about the death penalties, when a character dies and gets reprogrammed in Taxon, upon their re-arrival in the Sanctuary they can either lose their memories of their previous stay in the city or one of their programmed possessions. For this glitch, we’re waiving the need for a penalty, but if you think it would be interesting to give your character a clean slate it is totally still an option.
To help you know when and where the zombie uprising is going on, we’ll be making IC posts to the main community complete with Taxon maps that will track the progression of the infection through the city during the course of the event.
Additionally, we realize this is a mod-run plot full of death and mayhem, but that doesn’t mean warnings won’t apply. If your post during this glitch is going to heavily involve zombie killing, death, and character infection, please include the following warning at the bottom of your post:
If your post will have any additional upsetting content (suicide to prevent reanimation or a particularly gruesome death scene, for example) then please warn for that specifically and cut any content in the post itself that describes it.
ONE LAST THING! Completely unrelated to zombies, but nonetheless helpful for plotting: we've got a new contact post! This one is locked to members of the OOC community to protect your personal information, so if you have any changes that need to be made, please look over yonder and let us know.
Now get to plotting, signing up, and rocking out like the undead!

Now for the fun of basic zombie behavior!
All zombies, no matter the type, will have the following in common:
- advanced decomposition, where one day of reanimated undead life is equivalent to roughly a week of natural decomposition
- they don’t just bite, they want to eat; while it is possible to get a bite and then run away, the zombies won’t be pleased and will go after their prey
- loud noises (like yelling, screaming, gunshots, etc.) will attract any zombie that is able to hear it; noise is a sign of life, and life = dinner
- much like the noises, zombies can smell their own and tell them apart from living prey nearby
- feel no pain; as an advantage of being dead, they don’t get hurt and won’t respond or back away from any damage done to their bodies unless it incapacitates them somehow or kills them
- have no supernatural powers; vampires or slayers or telepaths or what have you that become zombies will not retain any of their special powers once they reanimate
- destroyed brain = dead for good; if the brain is severely damaged before reanimation can occur, then it simply won’t, and severe damage to the brain is the only way to kill a zombie
Most of the zombies will be Shamblers, Extras that have been infected and risen in large numbers all throughout the city. These will be slow moving, without any higher brain function other than what is required to move and process external stimuli like sound and smell. ZOMBIE SIGN-UP!
Character: your soon-to-be-zombie’d character’s name
Zombie: Shambler or Mover
Death Penalty: yes or no (if yes, which penalty of the available two)

Zombie: Shambler, the poor dumb mook
Death Penalty: ...nah
>.>
Zombie: It probably won't come to that, but since I'm constitutionally incapable of leaving spaces blank on forms, we'll say shambler.
Death Penalty: No.

Zombie: Mover, because while it would be a sweetly ironic thing to have the Tracker/Knower-of-Useful-Factoids/Trigger-Happy-Gun-Man just shamble about mindlessly (and sad. So, so sad)... Cain's a definite Mover.
Death Penalty: Hmmmm. No. I want him to remember, and that'll be enough trauma for him without losing a piece of his old life too.

Zombie: Mover
Death Penalty: Nope
BECAUSE I AM EVIL~
Zombie: Mover
Death Penalty: I'm going to have to pass on this one this time around.
Re: ZOMBIE SIGN-UP!
Zombie: Mover
Death Penalty: nooooo

Meanwhile Glitch is decidedly NOT getting zombie-fied and will be killing stuff and scampering for his life. There will be drama with Cain and I thiiiink some sort of Amy-rescuing, unless something else has come up. If anyone wants / needs him anywhere for Purposes, I am fairly open.

(And Drusilla will be extremely annoyed with whoever takes her pet away from her.)

If anyone else would like a big, gruff gun toting mercenary to help kill zombies/rescue them, lemme know.
He won't be getting zombiefied, however. While Jayne gets hurt a lot it's usually long range weapons like bullets and the like, so he won't let the zombies get close enough to him, given an adequate space to defend himself in. :D

I don't plan on having Jason turn into a zombie. He's been in a similarish situation before and probably learned something about invasion survival from it.

I have no plans for her to be zombiefied, but Tara is going to get trapped in her shop toward the end of the plot. Let me know if you'd still like to get trapped as well and/or help get her out.

B'Elanna, on the other hand, is going to be zombified towards the end of the plot. Because I'm nice like that. My rather flexible plan currently involves B'Elanna getting stuck in a deserted part of the city while she tries to bring the power back on line with her super engineering skills. She'll get nommed before she can find out if she's successful or not.
Martha will be in doctor mode. Trying to work on a cure, trying to treat the infected and trying not to get nommed herself. If anyone gets bitten - particularly towards the beginning of the plot when no one is sure what's going on - and would like her to try and treat them, let me know!
DG ... is mostly open, at the moment. She'll be happily returned to her normal age soon and will team up with the Taxon coven to try and find some sort of cure. Apart from that, zombie fighting awesomeness? IDEK.

ALSO: I'll see if I can fast track any Glitch-related horrors so he and DG can be not split up for this one. Maybe they can end up stuck at Tamper and Trick with Tara?

except maybe to begin with! That's how you know this really is the apocalypse.Current plans include (but are not limited to!): a fair bit of panic, meeting up with Jason and forming a strangely resilient zombie-fighting team, bumping into/helping/"helping" Kaylee, hijinks with Jayne, and some kind of encounter with zombie Smecker. And possibly something with River?
Taking care of Joan will also be a--probably his main--priority.
BASICALLY THIS WILL BE THE MOST SOCIAL DON HAS EVER BEEN
He won't be bitten until near the end. Jason, this does not entitle you to his liquor supply.
He may, however, bring you a bottle of something (of Roger's) afterwards.no subject
I think there will also be some type of development where she's forced to reveal her daylight vulnerability. As the zombies get worse, she'll realize she'll need daytime protection.

all the fail with the slowness and the slow
As Oolong, Long will squash zombies. Squash I say. And then he's gonna get turned human again and be all OH DEAR and mostly with the running. And trying to find clothes.

Rescuing at some point, team ups with Jayne, Don and Jason at some other point, basically Kaylee's the only one in the city who isn't good at kicking ass SO IF YOU WANT HORRORS OR AWESOME AWKWARD FUN let me know.
...yes. /goes to post
